Rosseti South has reduced the volume of electricity theft for 5 months of 2020

09.07.2020

The unaccounted and non-contractual consumption has decreased on 38% in the regions of operation of Rosseti South for 5 months of this year compared to the same period in 2019. The company's specialists have identified violations for 29.8 million kWh this year compared to 48.2 million kWh of the previous year.  The level of electricity losses decreased by 84,4 million kWh or 0.8% for 5 months of 2020.

Electrical engineers identified and prevented more than 882 violations of electricity consumption. On the basis of drawn up acts, illegal consumers will have to reimburse the grid company 141,5 million rubles. The largest amount of unauthorized electricity consumption was detected in the Republic of Kalmykia (60%), where “Illegal miners” consumed used 13.9 million kWh of electricity in April this year, and in the Astrakhan region (23%).

Violators have already reimbursed 2.2 million rubles for electricity consumption without concluding an agreement. Another 111 acts of non-contractual consumption of 4.5 million kWh for an amount of almost 20 million rubles are being prosecuted in courts.

A significant reduction in energy theft was possible thanks to the introduction of new electricity metering technologies and high-precision equipment, which allows to calculate the source of losses in the shortest amount of time. Over 170 thousand new-generation meter devices are operating in all branches of the company today. Another 88 thousand smart metering devices will be installed before the end of 2020. Technical measures, which deprive attackers of the possibility of illegal connection to the network, raids in the areas with the greatest amount of losses, and an information campaign that forms rejection of electricity theft have a great influence on theft prevention.

The company warns that illegal interference in the power system is fraught with the threat of electric shock, failure of household appliances, and deterioration in the quality of power supply. Compensation calculated on the basis of the maximum allowed capacity multiplied by the number of hours of unaccounted consumption from the date of the previous instrumental check of the consumer when illegal consumption is detected. The amount of compensation is ten times higher than the amount of payment according to the metered values.
