Rosseti South reduced the theft of electricity by 36% in the 1st quarter of 2021

The unaccounted and unconditional consumption decreased by 36% in the 1st quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year in the Rosseti South area of operations. The detected amount of electricity theft for three months of this year amounted to 6.5 million kW * h against 10.1 million kW * h in 2020.

Power engineers have prevented more than 390 violations of electricity consumption in the first three months of this year. Illegal consumers will have to reimburse the grid company about 25 million rubles.
The largest amount of unauthorized electricity consumption is observed in the Volgograd (45%) and Astrakhan (22%) regions.
Reduction in energy theft was possible thanks to the introduction of new electricity metering technologies and high-precision equipment, which allows to calculate the source of losses in the shortest amount of time. Over 238 thousand new-generation meter devices are operating in all branches of the company today.
The company warns that illegal interference in the power system is fraught with the threat of electric shock, failure of household appliances, and deterioration in the quality of power supply. Compensation calculated on the basis of the maximum allowed capacity multiplied by the number of hours of unaccounted consumption from the date of the previous instrumental check of the consumer when illegal consumption is detected. The amount of compensation is ten times higher than the amount of payment according to the metered values.
