Rosseti South prevented theft of almost 9 mln kWh of electricity

07.11.2025

In January-September of 2025, Rosseti South identified more than 640 cases of illegal electricity consumption totaling about 9 million kWh. Of the total volume of detected non-contractual and unmetered energy consumption, consumers in the Astrakhan Region accounted for 67%, Volgograd Region for 16%, Rostov Region for 13%, and the Republic of Kalmykia – 4%.

Damage from the actions of violators amounted to almost 40 million rubles. Of this amount, 69% is electricity consumption bypassing meters or using devices that distort readings, and 31% is illegal connection to the power grid without a power supply contract.

Rosseti South was already compensated about 12 million rubles by the offenders for non-contractual energy consumption. The rest of the damage will be recovered through the courts, for which the relevant lawsuits are being prepared. The company has already developed successful judicial practice in recovering unjust enrichment of consumers due to illegal electricity consumption.

It should be reminded that the amount and price of stolen electricity is calculated based on the maximum 24-hour operation of all appliances at the facility since the last meter verification. The amount of compensation is ten times higher than the amount of payment according to the meter readings, which makes such “savings” completely unprofitable.

Unauthorized interference in the operation of electricity connection schemes is fraught not only with criminal, administrative liability and monetary fines, but also with power outages and failure of household appliances. Unauthorized connection to the power grid also carries the risk of electric shock and even death. You can report theft on the company's website, by calling the hotline on 8-800-220-0-220 (24 hours a day, anonymously) or by calling 220 (for mobile devices).
